Re: 107 Hoover (westside)
William Hansbrough, a 36-year-old black man, was strangled Thursday, March 4, in his County Jail cell in the 400 block of Bauchet Street in Chinatown, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
At the time of his death, Hansbrough was incarcerated at the Twin Towers jail on charges of possessing a firearm as an ex-felon. Hansbrough had been sharing a cell with Jamar Tucker, a 26-year-old black man whom authorities described as his friend and fellow 107 Hoovers gang member.
Tucker, who is fighting a death sentence in another conviction, had recently been transferred to Twin Towers from Tehachapi State Prison, where he was serving 11 life sentences for other crimes, according to Det. Kenneth Clark of the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau.
Tucker and Hansbrough had been sharing a cell for about a month when friction started, Clark said.
After Hansbrough's death, Clark said, investigators determined that Tucker was apparently angry with his cellmate because he believed Hansbrough was taking credit for crimes he didn't do. Tucker is accused of strangling Hansbrough Thursday morning, then alerted a deputy that his cellmate was dead, Clark said.
During the homicide investigation, Clark said that Tucker freely admitted to killing Hansbrough. Tucker has been charged with murder and remains at Twin Towers jail.

Mark Elise Williams, left, and Jamar Lavon Tucker listen to testimony during their trial Wednesday in San Bernardino County Superior Court. Jurors heard testimony from one of the victims of a home-invasion robbery who was bound, shot and left for dead.
On trial are Michael Lamar Rose, Jamar Lavon Tucker and Mark Elise Williams, all 25; and Donald Ray Shorts, 24.
Three arrested in connection with carjacking, homicide
Three people were taken into custody over the weekend in connection with a Los
Angeles carjacking that resulted in a deadly home invasion robbery in Redlands.
Redlands Police, working with several other agencies, arrested Donald Ray
Shorts Jr., 22, Michael Lamar Rose, 23, and Jamar Lavon Tucker, 23. Shorts
and Rose are charged with homicide, attempted homicide, robbery, carjacking
and kidnapping for ransom. Tucker has been charged with possession of stolen
property taken during the carjacking and robbery.
Working with members of the Department of Corrections Law Enforcement
Investigative Unit, Redlands Police traced Shorts and Rose to Las Vegas, Nev.,
where they had fled following the homicide.
With the assistance of the LEIU team in Nevada and Las Vegas Metropolitan
Police, police set up a surveillance of Shorts’ vehicle. They arrested Shorts in
Las Vegas at about 10 p.m. Friday following a short vehicle pursuit. Also in the
car was Gloria Antonian Ramirez, 22, a girlfriend of Shorts who was arrested on
unrelated charges.
Following Shorts’ arrest, police served two search warrants in Las Vegas and
located Rose, along with several weapons, at one of the locations. He was
arrested at 2 a.m. Saturday.
Further investigation led police to a third suspect.
Jamar Lavon Tucker, a parolee and known member of the 107th Street Hoover
Crips, who goes by the name of Baby Hoover Ray, was arrested at his Los
Angeles home Sunday at 11 a.m. Police recovered property at Tucker’s home, in
his vehicle and on his person that was later identified as having been stolen in
the carjacking.
Tucker was transported to Redlands where he was booked and transferred to
West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. Shorts and Rose are
being held in the Clark County Detention Facility in Nevada awaiting extradition.
Shorts is also wanted in connection with a separate homicide in the Los Angeles
area.
All three are known gang members.
Redlands Police wish to thank the Department of Corrections Law Enforcement
Investigative Unit, the Los Angeles Regional Fugitive Task Force, led by the
United States Marshals Service and the Compton, Fullerton, Long Beach, Los
Angeles and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Departments. Their assistance was
immeasurable.
The incident began with a carjacking in Los Angeles on Friday, April 22, where
Shorts, also known as “Baby Black Jap,” Rose, aka “Li’l 9,” Tucker and at least
one other man abducted the 32-year-old victim, an acquaintance, and took him
against his will to Redlands.
There the men entered a home in the 100 block of West Delaware Avenue.
After robbing two of the residents there, including the carjacking victim’s 51-year-
old mother, they shot them, killing Gerald Brooks Jr., 28, and wounding the
woman, who later called 911.
The men left the residence, taking the woman’s car, a champagne-colored late
1990s Chrysler 300 four-door. The car was found later Saturday in Long Beach.
At about 3:30 a.m., Fullerton police found the carjacking victim, who had also
been shot and wounded, in the 1500 block of Roosevelt. The victim’s Land Rover
was later recovered along with the missing Chrysler.
Redlands Police are continuing to follow up on leads on at least one more
suspect.
Victim in Redlands home-invasion case testifies
SAN BERNARDINO - A reticent Michael Denmon spoke in sentence fragments Wednesday as he testified about being bound in duct tape and shot in the temple after gunmen robbed his mother's home in Redlands in 2005.
"Real scavengers," Denmon said. "They had their mind on what they were going to go do."
Denmon, 35, testified in the trial of four Los Angeles-based gang members charged in the April 23, 2005 home invasion and shooting in which one person was killed and two were wounded.
All are charged with murder, attempted murder, robbery and kidnapping. They also are charged with deadly use of a firearm and conducting crimes in association with, and to benefit, a criminal street gang.
The four, who have pleaded not guilty, face life in prison without parole if convicted.
Doug Poston, a San Bernardino County deputy district attorney, said in opening statements Tuesday that the four defendants participated in the crimes for the money, the gang and the thrill.
On Wednesday, Denmon described giving Rose, whom he described as a friend who was like a brother, a ride in his blue Range Rover. The two went to Denmon's aunt's home in south Los Angeles the evening before the attack.
Denmon said Shorts, Tucker and Williams pointed a gun at him, pistol-whipped him and bound him with duct tape. He said they stripped his car of recently installed music equipment, then stuffed him in the back of the Range Rover and drove to Redlands.
Denmon recalled hearing the four defendants talking about wanting thousands of dollars in cash, which Denmon had received from selling a Chevrolet he had repaired. He had stuffed the cash into a dresser drawer, he said.
He said he was threatened with death during the drive.
"There was nothing to plead with them about," Denmon said.
Denmon said Shorts stayed in the car while Rose, Tucker and Williams stormed the house, firing at least five shots.
Faulkner, 53, was bound with duct tape and shot three times in the head. She survived and finished two days of testimony Wednesday.
Her nephew, Gerald Brooks Jr., 28, was killed. Seven children inside the home were not hurt.
Denmon said the four were at the house nearly 10 minutes before they drove off, Rose and Williams in Faulkner's Chrysler 300 M and Shorts and Tucker in Denmon's Range Rover.
Denmon, able to see over the cargo area despite his binding, said he lost sight of his mother's car after the two vehicles turned south on Interstate 215, where Tucker climbed through the Range Rover toward the cargo area.
"He put the pistol to my head," Denmon said. "He pulled the trigger."
Denmon, who was dumped out in Fullerton, said he remembers bleeding heavily. He underwent brain surgery, he said.
Rose's attorney, Michael Duncan, said in opening statements Tuesday that Denmon was a drug dealer who had sold a kilogram of cocaine to Shorts for about $7,200 one week before the attack. Duncan said Shorts later learned half of the kilogram was baking soda.
Denmon was convicted on a drug-transportation charge in 1995 and of being a felon in possession of a firearm in 2006, court officials said.
Gang member in jail for murder is investigated in cellmate's death
Jamar Lavon Tucker told deputies during a security check Thursday that he had just killed his cellmate, a member of the same gang who was awaiting felony trial, L.A. County sheriff's officials say.
March 10, 2010|By Richard Winton
A Compton gang member already sentenced to life in prison for murder and awaiting trial in a second slaying is being investigated in the strangling of his Twin Towers jail cellmate.
Jamar Lavon Tucker, 28, was found inside his two-man cell next to the body of William Levell Hansbrough during a security check Thursday at the downtown L.A. jail, officials said.
Tucker told deputies he had just killed his cellmate, said Steve Whitmore, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. A coroner's autopsy determined Hansbrough's death was homicide by strangulation.
Deputies found Hansbrough, 36, covered with a sheet inside the cell that is part of a gang module. Whitmore said sheriff's homicide investigators expect to present a case to prosecutors in the near future.
According to sheriff's officials, Tucker and Hansbrough are part of the "same gang" and in the "same security level" and had shared a cell for more than a month before the slaying.
Hansbrough was scheduled to go to trial next month on charges of felony gun possession and forgery, according to prosecutors.
Tucker is scheduled to go to trial May 10 in the 2005 slaying of Kevin Watts. Prosecutors will seek the death penalty if he is convicted in that case, officials said.
Two years ago in San Bernardino County, Tucker was convicted of murder and attempted murder in a carjacking and home-invasion robbery in Redlands, court records show. He received a life sentence.
Redlands police described Tucker as a member of the 107th Street Hoover Crips in Los Angeles who went by the name "Baby Hoover Ray."
Tucker and three other men carjacked a car restoration expert in L.A. and forced him to drive to his Redlands home.
Once there, the carjackers fatally shot the man's cousin, wounded his mother and stole thousands of dollars in cash, according to police. As they drove back to L.A., Tucker shot the carjacking victim, according to authorities. The man pretended to be dead and was dumped in Fullerton.

Re: 107 Hoover (westside)
Dijon Durand "Jabba Jaws #3" Kizzee, 29, A 107 Hoover Criminal Gang member was shot & killed by law enforcement Monday, Aug. 31, 2020 in the 1200 block of West 109th Place in Westmont, according to authorities and coroner’s records. About 3:16 p.m., two deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s South Los Angeles station were driving on Budlong Avenue when they spotted a man identified as Kizzee riding his bicycle in violation of a vehicle code, said Lt. Brandon Dean. Deputies tried to make contact with Kizzee, but they said he dropped the bicycle and ran north on Budlong for a block with deputies behind him. Deputies tried again to make contact with Kizzee in the 1200 block of West 109th Place, but, Dean said, he punched one of them in the face. Kizzee then dropped a bundle of clothing he had been carrying, and deputies spotted a black handgun in the pile. Deputies then opened fire, killing Kizzee.
