Goodfellas (1990) with Robert DeNiro & Joe Pesci

Unread post by alexalonso » June 30th, 2003, 5:50 pm

In 1990 Martin Scorcese directed one of the best gangster movies of all time. The book, Wise Guys is an excellent read that gave birth to the movie Good Fellas. You wont put the book down and the fact that the story is based on true events makes the flick so much more interesting.

Joe Pesci did an excellent job playing Tommy, and actually won a supporting Oscar for his role. Robert DeNiro and Paul Sorvino did great jobs in their roles. Samuel Jackson had a small role in this movie too. A great movie for all times.

Mr. Alonso is correct. An excellent read.

http://www.epinions.com/content_2338234500 rates it number 3 in all time, however, I know those who rate it number 1 of all time!

Get Down.

Now can we please consider "Pulp Fiction" a gangster movies peeps.

I own this movie and I have read Wise Guy and both are great. It was cool to see how some stuff differed between the two ie.) in the movie how Henry goes to Paulie for the money and starts crying, but in the book his wife claims she went to ask for the money and it was Paulie who shed some tears.
Check out http://www.goodfellahenry.com/ It's cool to see real pictures of the real people who were involved in this story.

I have read the book "The Godfather" even after i saw the movie & as usual the book far outweighs the film in every category, i think with books once you put an effort to get into the subject line we become more engrossed in it because we get to use our own imagination

Oh come on now, how can you not like to see Joe Pesci swordfighting with a loudmouth and his own pen in a bar. Now that's Hollywood I tell you. Lol.. :P

Ok I'm editing to post a review of Godfellas 1990:

Martin Scorsese's 1990 masterpiece GoodFellas immortalizes the hilarious, horrifying life of actual gangster Henry Hill (Ray Liotta), from his teen years on the streets of New York to his anonymous exile under the Witness Protection Program. The director's kinetic style is perfect for recounting Hill's ruthless rise to power in the 1950s as well as his drugged-out fall in the late 1970s; in fact, no one has ever rendered the mental dislocation of cocaine better than Scorsese. Scorsese uses period music perfectly, not just to summon a particular time but to set a precise mood. GoodFellas is at least as good as The Godfather without being in the least derivative of it. Joe Pesci's psycho improvisation of Mobster Tommy DeVito ignited Pesci as a star, Lorraine Bracco scores the performance of her life as the love of Hill's life, and every supporting role, from Paul Sorvino to Robert De Niro, is a miracle.
