Here is a chart by mcscott from another forum. He has contacts with local police and FBI in Detroit and has written the book "Motor City Mafia: A Century of Organized Crime in Detroit." During the "Game Tax" indictment in the mid-1990's, the family was said to have about 30 members. However, mcscott has said that his FBI contacts have told him that boss Jack Tocco has made a number of new members in recent years, possibly raising the family's membership to as high as 45. Underboss Tony Zerilli, who was convicted in the "Game Tax" case, will be getting out of prison here soon if in fact he isn't already out.

The Detroit family is very tight-knit, with many of it's members being related. It's boss, Jack Tocco, has been at the top for decades now. The family still controls the region's bookmaking and controls or gets a share of any high-stakes card games and loansharking in the Detroit metropolitan area. It also enforces a street tax on other criminals similar to what the Outfit does in Chicago.JohnnyRed wrote:Thats alot of people actually... I wouldnt have put them as that numerous in Detroit being as Detroit is 85% black and you dont hear much about the mob down there. I lived there for a few years never seen an Italian criminal at all actually... But I dont doubt it though.

Well, I've been into researching organized crime for about 15 years now. But even more than that, I've talked to people who know a lot about this stuff.cugine0883 wrote:westside, how do you know so much about these guys? I wish I had a way to meet these guys or see 'em in person. I've been interested in this shit since I was a kid, anyways thanks for the reply.
I sent you a PM.

Like all American LCN families, Detroit is a domestic operation, though they do have ties to Sicilian mafiosi. I'm not sure what icegoodbarbPresident meant by Partinico, Sicily.Carmelo_Sicily wrote:What's this about them having territory on Partinico, Sicily? I thought they were strictly based in America. Or do they have some connections to zips like Gambino, Bonanno, DeCavalcante and Philly?
Captains are often referred to as street bosses. In the case of Detroit family, the street boss oversees all the captains directly, giving more insulation to the official boss. Other families have used this arrangement. Often it's largely a matter of semantics. Street boss, acting boss, front boss, etc. - they are more or less the same thing.GodKing wrote:What is a "Street Boss"? I thought the Capo's were the street boss.

It will be interesting to see who takes over once Jack Tocco steps down or dies. But until then, he is firmly in command of the family.Mr.Bungle wrote:The Toccos should let the Giacalone take over Detroit. They've always been street level, whereas the Toccos are isolated from all that in their upscale suburban communities.

Yeah, the family has remained in remarkably good shape and of significant size despite it's geographic location. The family has 30-45 members and at least twice as many associates. Detroit and Chicago are basically the only two midwest areas left that are considered by the feds to have considerable LCN activity. The others - Cleveland, Kansas City, St. Louis, Milwaukee - are pretty weak by comparison.known-felon wrote:I have never saw a Detroit family list before wow! The author of that book (Scott Burnstein) is a regular poster on the other forum. He is currently working on another book about the Chicago Outfit.known-felon wrote:I have the book Motor City Mafia on order from amazon I was surprised to find a book focusing specifically on Detroit lcn to be honest.
Re: Detroit Mafia
People hear BS in a conversation and feel the need to post it. For example, Papa Joe's is mob associated? What a joke? The owners are government rats that shaved their drug sentence by testifying against some South Americans.
Even a bigger joke, is the list of so called mob associates. A lot of people on that list are fuckin' jerkoffs. Let's be serious... Pete and Joe Messina. They're both a slap away from being half a fag.
For those of us that really know and stumble upon this page, it is quite a laugh. I'm going to go through a few more names and make another post just to humor myself.

Detroit Family members Anthony "Chicago Tony" La Piana and the late Vincent "Little Vince" Meli have, or at least had, major ownership in the business.sazeetz wrote:People hear BS in a conversation and feel the need to post it. The lists of members and associates of the Detroit Family, as well as some Family businesses, were compiled by an author who has written a book on the Detroit Mob and has sources in local law enforcement in the city.Even a bigger joke, is the list of so called mob associates. But people should automatically listen to you (some anonymous poster) because you simply claim to "really know?"

Speaking of Detroit, here is a photo of Jack "Jackie the Kid" Giacalone, who is said to be in line for Boss when Jack Tocco dies. The girl is his daughter Chantel.
Because I had to upload this pic, I have no idea if it will stay up or if it will disappear like the others.

Re: Detroit Mafia
Ironically I remember reading an old article that Jack Giacalone was once arrested for selling stolen (I think it was) Christmas trees.

I'm no anonymous poster. I've posted under my nickname in Detroit.
The Westsider seems to be a self proclaimed expert since he has a few pictures and copies and pastes articles. I'm not going to get into a big dialogue about who I am, what I know, etc. I just stumbled upon this page and added my two cents. However, my two cents is reality. Some of these people listed are friends and relatives of mine.
But like I said, most are jerkoffs that are a half a slap away from sucking cock. Just because you get busted doesn't make you a tough guy, honorable, or have your button.

I don't think I've ever claimed to be an expert. But I do back up what I say with the available information at hand, whether they be government reports, press articles, sources such as former law enforcement personell or organized crime authors, etc.sazeetz wrote:I'm no anonymous poster. I have no problem with guys with inside knowledge. I talk to many of them on other forums. But most of them don't come across as belligerant jerkoffs like you did in your very first post. You say you added your two cents when in reality you didn't add anything. If you have firsthand knowledge of people connected to the Detroit LCN, feel free to offer it. Everyone here, including myself, would appreciate it. But don't just come on here making claims and insults and doing nothing else.
