Yeah, from what I've read it is a business owned by Montagna on Bogart Street in Brooklyn. Not surprising since his nickname is "The Ironworker."LoveTheMafia wrote:i heard that salvatore montagna is running a place called matrix steel...is this true?

Steel work of some sort I assume. Considering there is a lot of attention on Montagna, since he is acting boss, I'd be surprised if he is doing anything illegal out of there.LoveTheMafia wrote:what kind of business is it? Joey Merlino was boss until he was imprisoned in 2000. Joe Ligambi is now the official boss of the family. Salvatore Merlino is Joey's father and was once the underboss of the family before he was demoted. The current underboss is Steve Mazzone.Faciulina wrote:i thought joey merlino was the boss and salvatore merlino the underboss

No. He would have probably become official boss but he was convicted on multiple murder counts and is in prison for life.
It's happened before and it will happened again. General attrition is the biggest contributor to the decline of LCN families. Obviously it happens slower in areas where there is still a relatively large pool of recruits (like New York) but in other places it happens more rapidly.i doubt these families let themselves to die i bet they replace dead men with new members or maybe the new york family prevent them inducting new members to take their business and put their guys there?

so joey merlino was demoted like his father? or the genovese's wanted ligambi as official boss? i read that merlino will be out in 2014 and he's still youngJoey Merlino was boss until he was imprisoned in 2000. do you mean that if a boss is sentenced to life he's demoted? he could put an acting boss runningNo. He would have probably become official boss but he was convicted on multiple murder counts and is in prison for life.
it depends on the areas in tampa there is sure a large pool of recruits but the family is small i think in that case the new york families stopped the recruitsGeneral attrition is the biggest contributor to the decline of LCN families. Re: Who are the key players in the mafia families)
Well, Salvatore Merlino was demoted because Nicky Scarfo was displeased with his alcoholism and other things. Joey simply lost his position because he went to prison, which paived the way for Ligambi to rise to the top. Ligambi is very respected within the family, as he bridges the gap between the members from the Scarfo, Stanfa, Natale, and Merlino eras. He is also backed by the New York families, although at one time the Genovese and Gambinos plotted with Philadelphia captian Peter Caprio to kill Ligambi, underboss Steve Mazzone, and consigliere George Borghesi. Since then things have been smoothed over and they now have a working relationship. A couple years ago the Genovese openened up a bookmaking operation right in the heart of South Philadelphia, of course giving Ligambi a cut. There has been a lot of discussion what will happen with Merlino when he gets out. Only time will tell. One thing for sure is that he will continue to have a lot of heat on him from law enforcement.Faciulina wrote:so joey merlino was demoted like his father? or the genovese's wanted ligambi as official boss? i read that merlino will be out in 2014 and he's still young
No, not saying that at all. Carmine Persico is still the official Colombo boss. Peter Gotti is still the official Gambino boss. Vic Amuso is still the official Lucchese boss. The difference with Basciano is that it doesn't appear he was ever able to actually become official boss in the first place before getting indicted.do you mean that if a boss is sentenced to life he's demoted? he could put an acting boss running
What's left of the Tampa family is about 10-12 members, many of them old. Not too many associates. They are now said to be "with" the Gambinos.it depends on the areas in tampa there is sure a large pool of recruits but the family is small i think in that case the new york families stopped the recruits

New Orleans Has a New Boss
Michael Tufaro seems to have taken control of the New Orleans Mafia along with his brother Joseph "Joey" Tufaro. The Tufaro brothers have a five decade family history in the New Orleans Mob. They also have family ties to the New York Colombo Family that go back to the 80's. Here are a few links and some other infomation that supports this line of thinking.
The New Orleans crime family has or had an impact throughout all Louisiana and several other southern states like Missouri, Texas and Mississippi. It has an estimated 10 "made" members left and many more associates. Some people say it is almost dead; others claim that it is one of the most powerful Mafia crime families in the United States today. It has been said that they are still active but these reports are unsubstantiated.Since Hurricane Katrina two brothers Joseph and Michael Tufaro have emereged as a new force in New Orleans. Michael Tufaro[1] has a long history of run ins with the law and was acussed of being part of an attempt to "fix" a federal trial[2] as far back as 1988. He was released from prison in 2003 for a kidnaping sceme[3] where Tufaro would kidnap local drug dealers and hold them for ransom. They also have family ties to New York[4] and the Colombo Family. The Tufaro brothers own[5] and control a large residential sub-divison that has resulted in a RICO[6] case being brought against them it seems as though their futre is still in question. We will be waiting and watching to see if this is the return of the "old school" New Orleans mafia.
