South Side Compton Crip
South Side Compton Crips (SSCC) are a predominately African-American street gang located in the City of Compton in Los Angeles County. Their turf is from Alondra (north) to Greenleaf (south) between Santa Fe (west) and Long Beach Blvd (east).
This neighborhood received national headlines in 1996 when it was believed that Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, a member of SSCC was alleged to have been the trigger man in the murder of Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Less than two years later, on May 29, 1998, Orlando Anderson was killed in a shootout when he and friend Michael Reed Dorrough went to the car wash on Alondra and got into an argument with Gerry Stone, a Corner Pocket Crip member. Stone pulled out a weapon but Dorrough pleaded with him to put it down. When Stone put the weapon away, Anderson pulled his weapon and shot Stone. According to witnesses, Stone’s uncle, Michael Stone, also a Corner Pocket Crip member, pulled his weapon and fired upon Anderson. Dorrough who was unarmed was also wounded when Anderson was shot. He picked up Anderson’s gun and returned fire, killing Michael Stone. Dorrough the only survivor left the scene wounded but only made it one block when paramedics took him to the hospital. Although his attorney argued that Dorrough was acting in self defense when he shot Stone, he was charged with all three deaths and sentenced to life in prison.
