South Side Compton Crip
South Side Compton Crips (SSCC) are a predominately African-American street gang located in the City of Compton in Los Angeles County. Their turf is from Alondra (north) to Greenleaf (south) between Santa Fe (west) and Long Beach Blvd (east).
This neighborhood received national headlines in 1996 when it was believed that Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, a member of SSCC was alleged to have been the trigger man in the murder of Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Less than two years later, on May 29, 1998, Orlando Anderson was killed in a shootout when he and friend Michael Reed “Lil Owl” Dorrough went to the car wash on Alondra and got into an argument with Gerry Stone, a Corner Pocket Crip member. Stone pulled out a weapon but Dorrough pleaded with him to put it down. When Stone put the weapon away, Anderson pulled his weapon and shot Stone. According to witnesses, Stone’s uncle, Michael Stone, also a Corner Pocket Crip member, pulled his weapon and fired upon Anderson. Dorrough who was unarmed was also wounded when Anderson was shot. He picked up Anderson’s gun and returned fire, killing Michael Stone. Dorrough the only survivor left the scene wounded but only made it one block when paramedics took him to the hospital. Although his attorney argued that Dorrough was acting in self defense when he shot Stone, he was charged with all three deaths and sentenced to life in prison.
In September of 2023, Duane “Keefe De” Davis from this neighborhood was indicted by a Clark County grand jury for the 1996 murder of Tupac Shakur. In 2009, Davis confessed to an LAPD / Federal task force for participating in the murder when he was facing a life sentence for drug trafficking. Because he was offered a proffer session he was protected from prosecution for the murder, but when Davis decided to do an interview in 2018 for BET Networks for a television show entitled, “Death Row Chronicles” detectives in Las Vegas reopened the case and spent five years building their case.
Southside has had an intense feud with the Palmer Blocc Compton Crips.
Southside Compton Crips are divided by generations. The first generation members are Original Gangsters. They are followed by the Original Baby Gangster (OBG). The third generation of members called themselves Baby Gangsters (BG) which included Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson. The fourth generation where called Original Tiny Gangsters (OTG) followed by the Tiny Gangsters. The most recent two generations are the Original Tiny Soldiers and the Tiny Soldiers.

- Big Dre / Freaky (DeAndrae Smith), 30 (January 6, 1974 – November 7, 2004) died of health related issues. Was in the back seat of the assailant car during the drive-by shooting of Tupac Shakur on September 6, 1996 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was also linked to the shooting of Serena Williams’ sister Yetunde Price in 2003, but fellow Southside Crip member Robert Maxwell was convicted of manslaughter on that case and served 12 years of a 15 year sentence and was released in 2018.
