Hispanic Gangs in the City of Los Angeles (Central LA & Pico Union area)
The Central area of Los Angeles is represented by Mid City, Pico Union, Westlake, Silverlake, Echo Park & the Downtown areas of the city, south of the 5 Freeway, east of Crenshaw Blvd, west of Alameda and north of the 10 Freeway.
Some of the gangs in this area go back to the early 1920s such as Temple Street and others formed in the late 1950s and 1960s such as 18th Street and Echo Park, while some of the El Salvadorean based gangs grew in the late 1970s and early 1980s such as Mara Salvatrucha and Crazy Riders.
Alpine Street, one of Los Angeles’ very early street gangs, which is now defunct, was formed in the Bunker Hill section near downtown Los Angeles 1890s.

this thursday september 16 2010 i came out of my second camp program. i was arrested monday december 14, 2009 for grandthef auto and assult on police officer. on january 6,2010 i was convicted as juvinile. at the department 204 for a full term camp program (9 months). and i was happy i was back in. in the streets of west los angeles. is no joke!. im just happy im still alive. i been robed, shot at , and i have associated with drugs. i did alot of “work” for the “hood”… i was to the point i did’nt give a f about my life. all the important thing was my so called “homies” .who never wrote to me to not one letter nor came to my court dates when i went to trial. the only people who was their for me was the family.i missed them. this past christmas was the worst. i woke up about 6:30 to do my morning wash up at central juvinile hall unit M/N. went back to my room to wait for the bullish ass breakfast… as i was waiting all the family memories came along a i notce tears coming down my cheeks. i let my family down. whom i live with. he has always been their for me . he always had atleast a taco on the table for the family. and thats the day i came to my sences . like i’ve been goin straight downt hill and i needed to get back up on my toes and change the fed up life i’ve been living … my perents migrated from mexico for a better life. and i seen my self in a cell.and i told myself this was not the life i wanted to live… i have a homie fighteen 25 to life for some thing he dont even remember doing… his fighting attempted murder..i write to him and his show his mother some love a go visit her once in a while.i have a heart but people dont see that all they see is the criminal record. the judge me as a fin delequence . and my advise to all the homies that put in work for the “hood”. ish aint rite. the system handing out time like candy. the system dont care about you all they want is the “money”. and we want that too thats why we do what we do…the best way to get to get the feria is by doing yo thing at school… my uncle always told when he seen me with the latest technology “your not going to get rich by steeling” . i ignored that. but now that i think about it his always been rite. all the things that the love ones tell you are true. they might be anoying after hearing the same ish every day . but they’ll just being real.
