Florence is an unincorporated community in California. Contrary to popular belief, Florence is not actually located within the Los Angeles city limits. It is often considered part of South Los Angeles despite being outside of the Los Angeles.
The census designated area of Florence is called Florence-Graham. According to the 2000 census, there were 60,197 people residing in Florence. 85.90% of the population in Florence is Hispanic, 24.55% is White, 13.14% is Black or African American, and only .09% is Asian. There are 13,354 household’s, of which 60.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 54.2% are married couples living together, and 22.7% had a female householder with no husband present. The average household size is 4.51 and the average family size is 4.71.
The median income for a household is $25,425 and the median income for a family is $25,824. Males had a median income of $19,400 and females had a $16,496 median income. About 34.1% of families had 35.8% of the population is below the poverty line, which is an incredibly greater percentage than the national average.
