Hoover Crips alliance and history in Los Angeles

The Hoovers [HCG / HGC ] are a collection of several different Crip affiliated street gangs along Hoover Avenue in South Los Angeles in the City of Los Angeles and into Unincorporated sections of Los Angeles County.

The original Hoovers formed around 92nd & Hoover Avenue around 1969 or 1970 and were also known as the Hoover Groovers. They were a collection of guys from various neighborhoods that socialized on 92nd Street when the Crips were in their infancy stages.

As the Westside Crips formed in the area around St. Andrews Park, they functioned with the Hoovers and eventually the Hoovers came under the Crips banner as the Crip’s philosophy spread throughout Los Angeles. When specific neighborhood identity began, the Hoover Groovers, became the 92 Hoover Crips in the same neighborhood around 1973. Eventually several other Hoover Crips sets formed from 43rd Street in South Los Angeles to 112th Street.

Around 1994 several Hoover members decided to drop the “Crip” identity from their name since they were in conflict with nearly every Crip gang in the area including all the East Coasts Crips, Main Street Crips, Rollin 60s Crips and all the Crips in the Rollin 100s car. The 74 Hoovers where the first to replace “Crip” with “Criminal” maintaining their same initials, but the 52 Hoovers never changed their name and maintained their “Gangster Crips” identity.

Ay man, whoever wrote that piece about 74 Hoover, and Hoover history in general, got their information wrong. What yall need to do, in the future when writing about Hoover(s), is vet a real live HOOVER who was in the trenches puttin’ in work and puttin’ it down. Not some busta’, mark, reject or wanna’ be that wasn’t with the business when this ish was jumpin’ off.

In 1994 Harbor City Crip formed an alliance with the 94 Hoover’s. This connection started in 1992 when Push Loc from Gardena Pay Bacc Crip introduced me to Big Pap Rest In Peace on the corner of 94th Street and Hoover Street. Big Pap and his nephew Candyman became my Chronic connection as Harbor City Crip did not have a Chronic Indo spot at that time. The Hoover’s and Harbor City’s both wore the Houston Astros hat representing the H. As time progressed, I connected half my set with the 94 Hoover’s weed spot. Me and Big Insane from 94 Hoover formed the clicc. 94 Hoover representatives we’re Nutt, Big Insane, Big Woody, HotDogg and Batman. The alliance ended when the 94 Hoover’s dropped the word Crip and started writing CK which meant Cripker. We than began forming ties with some of the HC 30s
