Despite Tyga’s harmless caper to get closer to his namesake animal, not only losing a pet, the rapper may serve time in jail after his home was searched for the illegal housing of a live tiger.

Authorities raided the Grammy-nominated entertainer’s Calabasas home on an anonymous tip to recover the animal seen in photos with Tyga in the recording studio and on the hood of a Rolls Royce. Keeping exotic animals barred by the Department of Fish and Wildlife without “a permitted facility that is licensed to house and care for restricted species” is a misdemeanor in California that can include up to six months behind bars.

Officers had staked out Tyga’s home for seven hours, reported NBC, before the owner returned to announce that he had taken the seven-month-old Bengali feline to a Ventura County shelter earlier in the day. Equipped to house domestic animals rather than 100-pound beasts, the tiger was transferred by state authorities to an unknown “secure location.”
