Man admits to killing suspected Latin Kings member

A Bethlehem man admitted Monday he stabbed to death a suspected Latin Kings gang member, and he received five to 15 years in state prison.
Ubaldo Lopez-Ortiz, 25, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the November killing in a backyard at the Marvine-Pembroke house complex. The plea bargain came as his defense attorney earlier claimed self-defense, and prosecutors said they would seek a first-degree murder conviction at trial.
Lopez-Ortiz was charged with homicide and possessing an instrument of crime in the death of Ezequiel De Jesus, 24, of Allentown, who police said was part of the Latin Kings gang. Lopez-Ortiz plunged a knife into his chest during a dispute, police said.
A trial was slated for Sept. 13. If convicted of first-degree murder, Lopez-Ortiz would have faced life in prison without parole.
