Bartender Pirus was a short-lived predominately African-American street gang located on the eastside of Compton during the 1970s. The name of the gang was inspired by the death of Lyle “Bartender” Joseph Thomas (Feb. 14, 1955 – Dec. 4, 1976) who was an original Eastside Piru member in 1971.
Thomas represented what is now known as Leuders Park Pirus during the early 1970s which led to him being fatally shot in December 1976 just 6-months after he gave an interview to TIME magazine. When Thomas was killed, the rivalry between the Crips and the gangs that became the Bloods was in its third year.

I remember once meeting an old Ni66ah from Bartender Piru, that old Ni66ah could mix the best drinks in all of Bompton. Too bad a lot of them Ni66ahs all lived in drunk driving accidents or became pastors and drug abuse counselors.
