A recent Lil Boosie spotting the previous Sunday revealed the incarcerated rapper to be taking part  in what may be a little known tradition outside Angola. Since 1965, the prison has held a twice-yearly rodeo, the longest running of its kind, as an outlet for the inmates of the Louisiana State Penitentiary. The idea became so appealing, that residents outside bars started paying to attend, growing it into a 7,500-seating arena with an arts and crafts market where inmates on their best behavior are even allowed to mingle with civilians.

A member of the spectating audience recognized Lil Boosie through a fence and snapped his picture. The rapper was sentenced to eight years after pleading guilty to attempting to smuggle drugs into jail in 2011, found not guilty of first-degree murder the next year and completed his GED, while Rolling Stone reported that his sentence may be lightened for potential release within five months.

Many inmates said they had been changed by the opportunity to practice art through the event which has become a $450,000 netting fundraiser for education and religious programs for the prison population.
