The city of La Puente is located in Los Angeles County, about 15 miles east of downtown in the San Gabriel Valley. The city has a total area of 3.5 sq. miles of land. The area was known for its fruit and walnut groves during the 1930s. The city was even home to the world’s largest walnut packing plant.
Today, the city is heavily-urbanized, but the area still has some historical landmarks from its founding days nearby, for instance, the Workman and Temple Family Homestead Museum in neighboring City of Industry. The local government has been relatively unsuccessful in its attempts to attract big-box retailers and restaurant chains. La Puente retains many aging 1950s-era strip malls. In recent years the city has became one of the most dangerous and crime ridden cities in Los Angeles.
According to the 2008 census, the total population of La Puente is 43,107 people. The racial makeup of the city is 1.11% White, 1.96% African American, 1.28% Native American, 7.16% Asian, 0.17%. Hispanic or Latinos are 93.10% of the population. 10.9% of residents have a bachelor’s degree or higher and 56.9% have a high school degree. 9% of families and 9.7% of individuals live below the poverty line.

Well first off I am living in la puente next to two schools one is nogales high and other is rorimer elementary and all I can say is la puente is known for its gangs and fighting and kush in other words weed. If you want to earn respect and make good money, go to school. I lived on the streets when I was 15 but I put myself through school. I’m currently finishing up my doctoral stulives at UCLA. That takes hard work and courage. I have two beautiful homes and enough money to retire but I’m way too young for retirement.

La Puente caters to the illegal’s that sneak into the USA and are dropped off at the La Puente post office on Elliott St right across from the Donut Hole. The city council makes it hard for the Americans that bought their homes with their GI bill to stay. All the working class taxpayers and the retired taxpayers are supporting the city council members staying and dining at lavish hotels. The same council has made La Puente a community that resembles Tijuana Mexico. They refuse to bring retail that caters to Americans so the Americans move out and the kong buy the homes and are paid by the county to house illegal Mexicans. La Puente is the result of years of horrible council members and city planners. La Puente should have schools for American children and nice shopping areas and parks and the Americans who live there should be able to enjoy their city without be threatened by the drug dealers and not be afraid to go outside for fear of being shot by someone on welfare selling drugs.

As a resident of La Puente my whole 26 years, I’m embarrassed of the comments that show so much immaturity and utter smartity. Why would you want to put your family through that pain. Having two cousins that were in Basset Grande, I seeing the direct pain. The schools do not help. Most teachers don’t have hope for the kids and are there to collect a check after they give up hope. We all need to come together for a more prosperous community and for the betterment our future kids.

I have lived in La Puente since for over 50 years and have seen the damage to my city. Just reading the smart post on here with ignorant rants explains what type of people the council members are attracting to La Puente.
I served in the military for many years and when I got out I made La Puente my home. My wife and I worked and raised our family. What was once a nice town is now a filthy place. Most of us folks who stayed tried to keep this town a safe place but the city planners and the council members ignored us. We volunteered our time to clean graffiti, pick up the litter in our city, help the schools raise money for the children. We were doing all we could but we couldn’t keep up with the individuals moving here, living here on our taxes disrespecting our city. The La Puente city council did nothing.

The people that the council are attracting don’t work, don’t go to school. They are on welfare funded by our taxes. The good for nothings sell drugs, the women can’t keep their legs closed and keep popping out kids. Each kid brings them more welfare money. The elderly have relatives moving in with them and taking advantage, yelling at them, threatening them, taking their money and nothing can be done because the elderly are too scared to complain. This sort of behavior would not last long back in the day.
